Did you know that Villa Antea, situated on a 5000 square meter property, is surrounded by a small family-owned olive grove where we take care of over 100 olive trees, as well as planted truffle trees that grow symbiotically with the oak tree, which is also a symbol of Istria's vegetation.
We primarily use our olive oil for our own needs and thus, our oil is healthy, environmentally friendly, and free of harmful additives. We provide small quantities of premium olive oil, primarily to friends and long-term guests.
In addition to olives, our garden is filled with Mediterranean herbs such as lavender, rosemary, oregano, mint, and thyme, and guests can enjoy and use them in the kitchen.
Olive oil production has a long history in the region of Istria, located in the northern Adriatic Sea. The ancient Greeks and Romans recognized the quality of the olive oil produced in the region and it was a valuable commodity for trade.
During the Middle Ages, monasteries and noble families in Istria began to cultivate olive groves on a larger scale. The olive oil produced was used for both culinary and medicinal purposes.
Today, Istria is known for its high-quality olive oil, which is produced from a variety of olive cultivars, including the Istrian bijela, oblica, and leccino. The region also has a number of small-scale, family-run olive oil producers who are dedicated to preserving traditional methods of production.
Overall, olive oil production has a rich history in Istria, and continues to be an important part of the region's economy and culture.
